How to Prevent Cancer
Recommendations from Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention July 2004:
1. Maximum Body Mass Index of 25 (daily moderate exercise plus weekly vigorous exercise)
2. Eat 5 or more servings of fruit and vegetables per day
3. Eat 7 or more complex carbohydrates per day
4. Decrease processed food and refined sugars
5. Limit alcoholic drinks to one per day for women and 2 per day for men
6. Limit red meat to 3 ounces or less daily
7. Decrease fatty foods, particularly, animal fats
8. Limit intake of salt
9. Eliminate tobacco use
Women who adopted 6 out of these guidelines were 35% less likely to develop cancer and 43% less likely to die from cancer than those who followed 1 or less of these recommendations.
